Two hundred years ago, the Karlsruhe architect and city planner Friedrich Weinbrenner, who played a decisive role in shaping the city’s character, passed away. On display in the GALERIA storefront are wooden models of various buildings and designs, which were likely constructed for research purposes before World War II. Every winter, they serve as the backdrop for the Christmas nativity scene at the Cyriakus Parish Church in Karlsruhe-Bulach.

After dusk, a projection by Japanese artist Kento Tomiyoshi transforms the model facades and offers new perspectives on Weinbrenner’s historical legacy. Kento Tomiyoshi is part of the Tokyo-based artist duo “Flightgraf,” which has been creating audiovisual installations since 2013. “Flightgraf’s” work focuses on video projections and facade mappings. Flightgraf has received numerous awards in international competitions for this work, including “Genius Loci Weimar” and “iMAPP” in Bucharest.
