Open Call: dm-Award 2027
The City of Karlsruhe’s Cultural Office announces the 2027 dm Award "connecting worlds"
Launched in 2023, the dm-Award connecting worlds recognizes outstanding projects that bridge the digital and analog realms, extending projections beyond the palace façade to engage the audience and the city center. The call for entries for the dm-Award connecting worlds is open to international artists, who may apply either individually or as a collective.
The submitted projects are intended to be realized in 2027 as part of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Light Festival and the *Media art is here* exhibition. Both events will take place over a four-week period between mid-August and mid-September 2027. During the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE, multiple projection mapping shows featuring diverse content and varying durations are presented each evening. The winning project may be integrated into this event schedule or function as a standalone program element.
We are seeking innovative projects that—under the theme "PLAYGROUND"—connect the digital space of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE projection mappings on the façade with the analog space of the market square, thereby playfully activating the public realm.
Consequently, submissions must comprise two elements: an element on the palace façade (a projection mapping lasting 2–5 minutes) and at least one "satellite" component that functions independently of the projection. The projects must be accessible to the public free of charge and be experienced at the Karlsruhe market square.
