Herbert Grönemeyer live in front of Karlsruhe Castle

Overture to the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe 2024

Overture to the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe 2024

As an actor he became known nationwide with the epochal masterpiece "Das Boot", his musical breakthrough came in 1984 with "4630 Bochum". Today, Herbert Grönemeyer, whose latest studio album "Das ist los" was released in March, is considered probably the most successful contemporary German musician, having sold more than 19 million records. For the overture of this year's SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe, he comes to Karlsruhe for a unique concert - open-air on the Schlossplatz with projection onto the 170-meter-wide castle façade and a setlist put together especially for the Karlsruhe evening.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the German Basic Law, the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe, which will light up Karlsruhe Castle from August 15 to September 15, 2024, will focus on the topics of law and democracy. Especially in fragile times like these, when rights, democracy, peace and values are under attack from many sides, attitude and commitment are more important than ever. Herbert Grönemeyer is not only musically one of the most outstanding German artists, but has also been socially and politically committed for decades, especially for this country and its democracy. The unique concert for the overture of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE Karlsruhe with projection onto the 170 meter wide castle facade will become part of Karlsruhe's city and music history as a musical and visual highlight.

Answers to frequently asked questions about the Grönemeyer concert

Tickets for the concert of Herbert Grönemeyer in front of the Karlsruhe Castle (Open-Air) are available exclusively at www.eventim.de as well as at ticket agencies connected to the eventim system (opening hours may vary). If not all tickets are sold in advance, there will also be a box office.

We recommend arriving and departing on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. The event site is centrally located in downtown Karlsruhe and is only a few minutes' walk from the underground streetcar stops "Marktplatz / Pyramide" and "Marktplatz / Kaiserstraße". The two central stops are also served by the Nightliner lines and guarantee that you can get home even at a late hour. For cyclists, there will be parking facilities in the immediate vicinity of the venue.

If you arrive by car, we recommend using the P+R parking lots in the city districts and continuing your journey by public transport. The organizers also provide the Birkenparkplatz at the BBBank Wildpark (Adenauerring) for a flat fee. From there, an illuminated footpath leads to the event site.

There is also a limited number of paid parking spaces available in the parking garages in downtown Karlsruhe. Please check the capacity utilization of the parking garages as well as the current construction and congestion situation on the mobility portal at https://vmz.karlsruhe.de.

Maps of how to get to the event can be found further down on this page.

Admission begins at 6 pm. The concert starts at 8:30 pm. There are a total of three entrances to the concert site (main entrance Schlossplatz near the monument, also in the extension of the western and eastern wings of the castle). There will be no seating. In the "back" area of the castle square, i.e. on the green areas, as well as in the lateral Najadenwäldchen there will be beer table sets near the catering stands, which will offer seating. In general, however, all places are standing places, there is no right to a seat.

Bringing your own seating such as camping chairs, etc. is not permitted for safety reasons.

Children up to and including 5 years of age may be taken along without a ticket if accompanied by a parent or guardian. From the age of 6, children need a regular ticket.

Basically, leave everything at home that you do not need to attend the concert!  Large bags and backpacks also mean longer admission checks and thus longer waiting times for everyone. Please bring only the most necessary utensils. These should all fit into a "gym bag" (cloth bag, approx. DIN A4 format) that can be easily controlled.

Basically not allowed are dangerous objects, weapons of any kind, bicycles, camera tripods / selfie sticks, professional photo and film equipment, large umbrellas, pets, tables, chairs, skateboards, inline skates, bottles of any kind, pressurized containers (e.g. deodorant), food, drinks and the like.  This list is exemplary and not necessarily complete. The security service at the entrance will decide whether you are allowed on the premises.

No. Bringing food and beverages is generally not permitted. There will be a sufficiently large and varied range of food on the event site.

No. Animals are generally not allowed on board. Exceptions apply for assistance dogs, for example.

The concert area covers the entire square between Karlsruhe Palace and Schlossplatz and is accessible without barriers. It should be noted that the grounds include green areas as well as gravelled paths. There will be a separate area for wheelchair users with a good view of the stage. Wheelchair accessible toilets are available.

No. Visitors who have a severely disabled pass with the symbol B are entitled to take an accompanying person with them free of charge. The accompanied person needs a regular ticket for him/herself, the accompanying person does not need one and can be taken onto the grounds by showing the ID at the entrance.

Beer and soft drinks will be served in cups. A deposit of 3,- Euro/piece will be charged for the cups. Wine will be served in wine glasses (deposit 3,- Euro / glass), water in PET bottles (deposit 1,- Euro / bottle).

In the area directly in front of the castle ("Ehrenhof") four round stands will provide you with beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Additional beverage stands and food stands, as well as the merchandise stand, are located at the main entrance area on the Schlossplatz. In addition, barrel runners will be on the move in the event area to provide you with beer and wine spritzers at your seat (Attention: Only cash payment possible!).

Deposits can be returned until 30 minutes after the end of the concert.

Unfortunately, card payment at the food and beverage stands is not possible. So stock up on sufficient cash for the evening. In addition, you have the possibility - at an ATM on site - to buy cash.
